Customer needs

Improved efficiency and labor savings

Babydump’s former picking and packing process involved intense manual labor. Their products were stored on shelf racks where they were manually picked and then put in crates for transport. Goods were then placed into boxes of different heights in their packing department.

Brand experience

Because Babydump picks, packs, and ships for different labels, these boxes would be then shipped without any external branding. Babydump wanted to have the option to add their own branding on the box as well.

Improved sustainability

Goods were then put into boxes of different heights in their packing department. Unnecessarily large boxes were sent to the carrier, resulting in high volume shipping. Without a right-sizing solution, boxes would often be shipped containing large amounts of empty space.

Our solution

Babydump decided to fully automate their logistics process with the main goal of increasing efficiency. Their new process begins with Ranpak’s Form’it!™ box forming solution which provides a steady stream of quality boxes ready to be filled. These are then collected by their Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and brought to the Autostore. The articles inside the Autostore are picked and placed directly into these boxes. The fully prepared order will be collected again by the AMRs and delivered to Ranpak’s Cut’it EVO Multi-Lid™ machine. After height-reduction and sealing, they are automatically labeled and sorted by the AMRs.

Testimonials
  • Now that our new system is set up, an order has only one manual touchpoint throughout the entire pick, pack, and labeling process. Orders take just a few minutes to get through the whole process, as well.

Business results

Up to 5X improved efficiency

Babydump’s newly automated process is 4 to 5 times faster than their old one and is more labor-efficient. Thanks to their increased speed they can ship more boxes each day, improving customer experience.

Improved unboxing experience

Babydump can now deliver visually appealing boxes with their own branding to their customers. The boxes are also easy to open thanks to a simple tear strip. The height reduction process controls void levels in each box, improving unboxing.

Cost savings

Babydump saves on labor costs, while the height reduction of the boxes reduces empty space, helping to conserve shipping costs and protect goods. Overall, Babydump now saves on labor costs, transportation costs, and enjoys reduced damage rates.

More sustainable packaging

Finally, their simplified process and right-sized packaging has a positive impact on the environment, shipping with less emissions within curbside recyclable containers.
