Studies show that consumers prefer sustainable packaging materials, and that paper is the clear choice over plastic. In a 2022 Ranpak study with Harris Research, consumers across the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, and Japan all preferred paper packaging.
Across the three years that Ranpak has run this survey, European countries included in the survey average 84% or more of respondents who wish brands used more paper instead of plastic. In the U.S., the three-year average is 77%, a substantial majority. Finally, three-quarters of consumers said they’d be more likely to purchase again from brands that ship sustainably than those that did not.
